Water erosion is a major issue for many homeowners. Most of the time, the erosion can be slowed or even stopped by a couple of easy steps. For this article, we are going to address shallow rill erosion.

Rill Erosion

Step 1: Locate Erosion Area

It is important to locate the initial area that is being impacted by water erosion. This will be the area that is losing the soil due to either standing water or running water.

Step 2: Evaluate Damage

By evaluating the damage, you will be able to better decide what course of action will be best to help fix your erosion problem. If the damage is extensive, you might need to call a landscaping company to help fix the issue. But if the issue is minimum, you can fix the issue yourself.

Step 3: Gather Needed Supplies

To fix shallow rills you will need:

1 flathead or leveling rack

Enough chat rock (size 8) to cover the affected area

Step 4: Fixing Rills

You will first begin by racking out the rills until they are flattened and can no longer be noticed.

After you have racked the rills, you will now apply the size 8 chat rock to the affected area.

For further issues:

If you have any further issues with shallow rills forming, you can contact your local Department of Natural Resources Office for further help and prevention methods.
